Children are the most precious of cargo that anyone will ever fly with. Yet the process used on today’s aircraft is woefully inadequate.

Some time back a company called Kids Fly Safe came out with this product. It was new and while nicely advertised needed to be proved safe. Since then it has been certified by both the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Transport Canada.

It was given the brand CARES, short for Child Aviation Restraint System. Designed for children from one year old and up who weigh between 22 and 44 pounds, it was designed so small bodies can better handle the jolts and bumps that take place on a high percentage of flights.

Small bodies cannot easily withstand the jolts that are common in routine air travel, much less emergency situations, and they flail forward or slide beneath the seat belt if they are not held securely in place.

This has been a great alternative to car seats and is much more manageable and lighter to travel with, yet it still provides the same level of safety as a car seat.

Weighing just one pound it fits easily into a six inch stuff sack.

The belt and buckle system integrates to your regular airplane seat belt and give the same level of safety as a car seat, but much lighter to travel with and easy to pack and store, not to mention carry as you are already struggling with the line ups with your child in tow.

It is very easy to install and at the end of a trip equally easy to remove and store for the next journey.

CARES is manufactured exclusively by AmSafe, the foremost manufacturer of aviation seatbelts and pilot restraints in the world. (Turn over your airplane seat belt buckle. Chances are it says AmSafe.)

While thousands have been sold you just can’t find the product in regular retail outlets. So here is where you can order it online.

There are not enough products designed for child air safety but for the youngest of flyers, this is a good one.
