The Oak Course at the TPC San Antonio

One more day and we head back home again to be greeted by some pretty cold temperatures.

Last night we took our hosts from Texas Golf Vacation’s Jack Parker and his wife Shirley. It was to be our treat at the restaurant of their choice. Shirley’s first choice was Boudro’s on the Riverwalk but sober second thought concluded it would be packed with no easy place to park and a bit of a long haul from the Parker home near Boerne.

They said Drew’s on Stone Oak Parkway was their second choice. Carey and I chose the Ribeye’s, Jack the pork chop and Shirley had pasta.

Our ribeyes were excellent with the highlight being the uniquely flavoured creamed corn…which we could have eaten tons of more even though there was a large serving on the plate.

Jack’s pork chop was close to 2 inches thick and he reported loving it. Shirley’s pasta looked as good as she said it was.

The owner moved from New York to San Antonio and I would have loved to return for a lunch of some of the deli items on the menu, clearly a transplanted selection from his home city.

With a spa, a number of dining options, a huge play area for children the JW Marriott is clearly a family destination.

We did not golf today but did yesterday on the TPC Oaks course where the Texas Velaro Open will be held in April. It was a windy day. All of us admitted that while the wind did cause havoc this course would be a challenge on even the calmest of days.
Tonight Carey and I will close off our stay with a late dinner at Boudro’s after the Grey Cup game, which we are hoping Winnipeg can win.

What a week! Golfing on two La Cantera courses, the Republic, Quarrey, both TPC courses here at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country and likely one more tomorrow before out plane takes off.

We walked the Riverwalk, explored the Alamo, shopped on Black Friday, found a number of unique quality dining spots and renewed acquaintances with our friend Jack Parker, whose family we celebrated US Thanksgiving with.

You may be interested in golfing here in South Texas. Working with Parker we have some really special pricing for Canadians wanting to escape for a week or a month.
