Just 25 miles from Guatamala City what is know as the Pacaya Volcano spew molten ash into the atmosphere, closing the main airport.
While not recent this is an area know for volcanic action, the last being in 1998.
The site is not far from Antiqua, a popular winter tourist destination.
There is no sense that this eruption has anywhere near the force of the Icelandic eruptions, but when an airport is forced to close, it can never be viewed as a casual irritant.
Not just because of the size, but I can assure you few news cameras will be clamouring to find their way to this region.
It is just not big enough of a story for the wall to wall coverage the news networks feed upon.
